U21 Footballers Blast into Winning Ways
Last Saturday the opening game of the u21 campaign began in Castletownroche, against Buttevant. The game started with Buttevant opening the scoring and Fermoy reacted perfect with a point of their own. It only took 15 minutes to see the first goal of the game, which came from David Lardner, who fielded a ball over the head of the corner back only to finish beautifully and put Fermoy in front for the first time. Fermoy starting getting up steam coming up to the break and headed in at half time with a 3 point lead: 1-5 to 0-5. Buttevant would take the second half the better with a quick two points in the opening 5 minutes after the interval. But the cogs started turning for fermoy again when they settled into comfortable play and started tagging on the points. It would take another great passage of play in the 45th minute to see Eoin Lacey hit the net for Fermoy, extending the lead out to 2-8 to 0-7 heading into the final quarter. Worth mentioning was an incredible double save from Gavin Dawson in goal when the game was still in the balance. It would be Ronan Morrison, who would have to take one for the team when he saw blackflashed his way for a tackle seen to be cynical. Fermoys footprint had been made on this game and saw the game out comfortably enough with it finishing 2-12 to 0-10. Well done lads and hopefully with the new championship layout the campaign will be long and successful.
