Junior Footballers Come Out on Top
Sunday afternoon, the junior footballers took to the field in Fermoy to take on Glanworth in the second game of the league. The conditions were almost perfect for football and there would be no excuse for either side with no major wind blowing in favour of anyone. Aidan Hyland took control of the game and got the first half underway with Fermoy playing towards the back pitch. The game started with little between the two teams and in a back and forward game. It was Glanworth who would hit the net first putting one past Jason Condon after he pulled off a excellent save only to followed in quickest by the Glanworth forwards. The game stayed pretty even through-out with neither teams putting daylight between them. Fermoy played the game with a light bench and at half time had to re-jig a few things introducing Ronan Morrison. Dara McCarthy and Criag Murphy would then be introduced during the second half. Glanworth would make there mark on the game by tagging on points putting them in the driving seat. Fermoy would reply perfectly by closing the margin to a level game at 8 to 1-5. The game was truly in the melting pot when Liam Colman stepped up to a placed ball on the sideline not far outside the 21 at an impossible angle, a kick most difficult for even the best placed ball kickers in the country, Liam floated the ball over the crossbar to put Fermoy in the lead in the final moments of the game. Conor O’Driscoll had a performance on the left hand side well worthy of a mention, as he continued to run on-ball and off the ball right till the end. The game ended 0-9 to 1-5 and Fermoy now had another victory added to the list of the events in the past week and in good form leading into championship. The lined out as following; J Condon, B Barry, G Morrison, C O’Driscoll, D.J Hayes, J Pyne, A Creed, P Shanahan, J Hutchings, O Ennis, L Colman, D Flynn, M Condon, R O’Hagan, E Delaney.
