Division 1 Hurling League Win
Sunday morning saw the premier intermediate hurlers travel in strong numbers to Carrigaline to test themselves before the run into championship. In a fine fresh morning the wind was quite high in the elevated Carrigaline set up. The wind would prove difficult to tame as the start of the game saw both teams shoot wide on a number of occasions. The pitch was a wide but soft surface and Carrigaline adapted quickest getting a 0-4 to 0-1 inside the first 15 minutes of the game dominated by the wind blowing right across the field. But Liam Colman from wing forward and Paidi de Roiste at centre field would find their range and get the game back to a 1 point game at 0-6 to 0-5. Liam finding excellent range from the placed ball, one of his finest assets. Brian O’Sullivan was next to add his name to the score list with a point on the end of the half to have a drawn game going into the interval. 6 points a piece at the half.
The second got underway with the introduction of Paudy Clancy replacing Martin Brennan in the half back line. Darragh O’Carrolls efforts at corner back would be well worthy in mentioning with his man not getting a touch in the most part of the game. For the first 10 minutes of the second half there was no difference in teams until Liam Colman would find the net and proving to be the turning point of the game. With the defence on top and nice link up play with mid-fielders it allowed the forwards to get good ball and start to distance themselves form Carrigaline. Jason Condon, Adam Creed and John Ring would be all introduced into the forwards and Jason was able to get 2 points for himself. Two final frees from Liam would end the game with a 9 point win with Carrigaline not scoring in the last 20 minutes of the game. 1-16 to 0-10 with possible one game left to play before the championship game against Kilworth. The team lined out as following: C Quinn, R O’Callaghan, J Daly, D O’Carroll, E Clancy, P Murphy, M Brennan, K Morrison, P de Roiste, J Hutchings, B O’Sullivan, L Colman, E Delaney, M Flynn, A O’Connor
