On Sat. 18th Feb Martin Joyce, Health & Wellbeing Officer & Paul O Keeffe ,Children's Officer represented Fermoy GAA at the GAA healthy Club Roadshow at Nemo Rangers,Cork.
The roadshow was held as part of the GAA s Healthy Club initiative .This is a drive by the Association in general but at club level in particular to foster an attitude of health in all it's forms both within the club but also as part of the wider community in your local area.
Several guest speakers including Micky Harte, Tyrone ,Michael Fennelly ,Kilkenny,Anna Geary,Cork & Cillian O'Connor , Mayo. Spoke very informatively on their experiences regarding both physical & mental health issues both on and off the pitch. Several other speakers including a psychologist from the HSE and members of some of the leading clubs in the Healthy Club initiative outlined some programs being rolled out in clubs to achieve these goals.
These include for example ,talks on fostering good mental health ,drug & alcohol awareness, healthy eating, suicide awareness/prevention,stress reduction, organisation of Club/community activities like run/walks and other health based programs.
It is our aim this year to try to initiate some of these Healthy Club practices in Fermoy Club and community and anybody interested in helping to achieve these aims can make contact with Martin Joyce or Paul O'Keeffe for further information.
