Last Thursday evening the u21s played Mallow in Castletownroche where Davy Farrell took charge of the game. Mallow and Fermoy have had some epic games over the past years of this competition and this wouldn’t be anything less then another battle for the times. The game started off as even as any other game with Fermoy having yet another very young team led by the U21 veterans Cian O’Carroll and Co. Mallow may have hit the net first but Fermoy rallied around and got the ball over the bar through the boots of O’Carroll, McEvoy, Lardner and Dale Dawson. The teams went in at half time both after picking up black cards through Rory McEvoy and a Mallow corner back but with little the difference 1-5 to 0-6 in favour of mallow.
The second half was exciting attacking football with David Lardner pointing a number of times with Cian O’Carroll on target too. Mallow picked up a red card half way through the second half. The game came down to a final kick and it would take extra time to pick a winner. Wit the beginning of extra time Mallow would return to 15 men and that would seem to be the difference when mallow hit the net twice in quick succession in the first period of additional time. Mallow had built up confidence and the game began to swing in there favour where they were eventual winners of the tie. The game ended 4-13 to 0-21 where the goals where the most important turning points in the game.
