Thursday night Fermoy held Killeagh Itas at home in Fermoy in what was a lovely evening for hurling. Fermoy had got off to a patchy start put with lads starting to pull their socks up and having some players back from injury, we went into the game a little stronger then the Carrigtwohill game. In the First half Fermoy went out with a message and that was to take the game to Killeagh and that was done with gusto from the likes of Jack Scannell, Nathan Collins and Adam Creed having good performances in the first half pressuring the Killeagh middle 8 into rushing and breaking down in the middle third. The full back line was playing good stuff to and most of Killeaghs points came from dead ball plays or minor slips in concentration out the field. In the first half alone Fermoy scored 1-12 to Killeaghs 0-8 but this was through some good scores in Shane O’Keeffe, David O’Callaghan and Adam Creed.
The second half would see Fermoy legs tire but the lads defended excellently and still brought the game to Killeagh when the opposition got their gander up. Scannell maintained his good form through-out but Sean McCarthy, Jeff Ennis and Dale Dawson stood up to be counted in seeing out the game out. John Wales in goal played mega stuff to when he was called upon too and the forwards didn’t stop the scoring and efforts from O’Keeffe and O’Callaghan kept the score line ticking over to make the mountain harder for Killeagh to climb. The game ended Fermoy out in front 1-18 to 1-13.
