Monday evening was a wet one and a mention must got out to the lads that made the effort to get out in the rain and do the business, equally worthy of mentioning are the many people that braved the elements to support the lads against our neighbours Kilworth. This was the hurlers fourth game in the league and have yet to lose a game. This game would seal the deal on the league and secure a place in the semi final of the league. Davy Farrell took control of the well contested game and the first half was as expected for the weather that the two teams faced. The game flowed well and Fermoys defence began to find their feet, coming out on top until Kilworth corner forward got on a braking ball and slipped it past Tom O’Brien. Fermoy responded in the best way possible when a placed ball landed short of the target and Paidi Shanahan pulled highest connecting beautifully with the ball, rocketing into the back of the net. The teams went in at half time 1-4 to 1-3 in favour of Fermoy. With the conditions not getting any better and it was starting to get darker the lads got on with the second half. Trevor Gumbridge and Craig Murphy made way for Dale Dawson and Shanahan earlier in the first half. The full back line and half back line really were the launch pads for the attacks as Ronan Morrison and Ross O’Sullivan commanded their patches. Nathan and John also had good games in centre feild and experience from Pa Boyce and Paidi Shanahan allowed the younger lads like Creed and Colm Hurley play with a bit freedom when Hurley was introduced. Gary Mahon, Ryan Sargent and Calum Frawley would also get a run and fermoy raised the green flag again through Adam Creed. Fermoy tagged on the final few points pushing the lead out to 2-10 to 1-6 at the final whistle. Fermoy will now face Charleville on Saturday evening in the final game of the league. Fermoy can finish out the season unbeaten heading into the championship and also the business end of the league. Team lined out as following: T O’Brien, R Morrison B Barry, R O’Sullivan, D J Hayes, T Gumbridge, C O’Keeffe, J Ring, N Collins,D Flynn, A Creed, R O’Hagan, M Condon, P Boyce and C Murphy.
