Saturday evening, Fermoy returned to Ballyhooly for the second time in this Championship but this time it was to face Glanworth. After a pretty handy First round win over Castletownroche, it was going to be a harder and quicker game against our not so far neighbours. After the u21s clashing the week before, this was always going to be close. In the warm, close evening in Ballyhooly, there would be no excuses in perfect hurling conditions. Through injury, Nathan Collins would start in the fullback line as Bryan Barry pulled out making way for the ‘’in-form’’ young lad. Davy Farrell (jnr) took charge of the game and got it underway starting with a Glanworth point. Fermoy, against a strong wind pointed 3 before the Harbour side could reply. In a fast and furious opening 10 minutes Fermoy found the back of the net when Paidi Shanahan put Pa Boyce in position to fire past the keeper. 1-4 to 0-4 in our favour. Glanworth then spent the next 10 minutes cutting into the lead and even bringing it level after 20 minutes at 1-6 a piece. As the wind stayed strong Fermoy and glanworth for range a number of times before the half. The teams would go in a half time 1-8 to 1-9, Glanworth with the one point lead. Fermoy were a young fringed team with experienced players in central roles such as Shanahan and Boyce, Shanahan a target from Tom O’Briens puck-outs.
Fermoy came out second in the traps in the second half, allowing Glanworth to build up a lead of 1-14 to 1-8. A lot of Glanworths points coming from the stick of Stephen Condon through placed ball and from play. A second half purple patch from Fermoy brough the game back to 1-11 to 1-15 but it was short lived as Glanworth kicked off again pushing out to 1-20 to 1-11. Fermoy seemed to lack that small bit of fitness in the end and that was when Glanworth capitalised. Fermoy brought on Colm Hurley and Dale Dawson for John Ring and Matty Condon hoping to inject a bit of pace and fresh legs into the side but the damage was already done at that stage. The final 10 minutes saw another bundle of points and goals but mostly in the way of the defending Junior A champions. The game ended at 2-22 to 2-13 in a 9 point defeat. The Juniors will now turn the attention to the Semi Final of the league. The team that lined out was as follows; T O’Brien, N Collins, R Morrison, A Forde, C O’Keeffe (Capt), R O’Sullican, D J Hayes, R O’Hagan, T Gumbridge, J Ring, P Boyce, A Creed, M Condon, C Murphy and P Shanahan.
