Last Tuesday night the u21 hurlers headed to Araglen for the second round of the round robin series against Kilworth. This game would be a repeat meeting of the U21 North Cork Final last year. Fermoy started out of the traps first with 2 points before Kilworth would reply with a goal and a point themselves. After 10 minutes it was 0-3 to 1-1 in favour of the village. Over the next 5minutes Fermoy battled back to level the game 0-6 to 1-3. There was no separating the teams up until Kilworth found the net again making it 0-9 to 2-6 and even tagging another point on, leaving the score line at 0-9 to 2-6 to Kilworth. Fermoy were coming in and out of the game through-out the first half with another very young team anchored by the experienced Shane Aherne and Eric Delany. Ronan Morrison was assigned a job and carried it out as well as he could with the rest of the defence getting a good testing but showing promise. The second half started with both teams pointing but Kilworth found range pushing the lead out to 0-11 to 2-11 after 15 minutes of the second half. Fermoy made some changes bring Eoin Lacey and Colm Hurley into the forward lines with Dale Dawson and Adam Creed making way. Eoin got into the action straight away by passing the ball into the incoming Delany where he finished calmly to bring the score line to 1-11 to 2-12. Delany then made way for Cian O’Carroll. Unfortunately Fermoy couldn’t quite close the gap and Kilworth came away victorious with their second win in the championship, Fermoy now had one win and one loss. The game finished at 1-13 to 2-15 but hopefully the lads can re-zero and pull it together before they face Ballygiblin in the final round. The team that lined out; J Wales, G Lardner, R Morrison, J Scannell, L Aherne, R O’Sullivan, S McCarthy, E Delany, N Collins, D Lardner, S Aherne (Capt) A Creed, S O’Keeffe, D O’Callaghan and Dale Dawson.
