The Junior Footballers travelled to Killavullen Saturday evening to take on Buttevant in the Snergy Junior A Football Championship in a late throw in at 8pm. With a great win under the belt from beating Ballyclough, Buttevant where always going to be a step up again. Through injury and people away, it would be a different team from the last day but they had to be up to the challenge at hand. Fermoy started off well from the boot of Cian O’Carroll and co. and in the first 10 minutes the tempo was high, back and forth up the pitch. Buttevant then made their mark on the game by putting the ball over the cross bar and also found the net after Gavin Dawson had pulled of the initial save. The competition kicked on and pointed 3 more points before Fermoy could find range again. In the opening half Fermoy managed to only point 6 while Buttevant found it easier to tag on the points. 0-6 to 2-9 at the half, putting another crucial goal past Dawson, who again, pulle out a brilliant first save but the corner forward reacted quickest. After a good chat at the half Fermoy need to come out strong in the second instalment of this Championship game and did so by firing 3 points over the bar before Buttevant could get up and running again. 0-9 to 2-10 was always going to be a battle for the final quarter of the game but Fermoy wouldn’t lie down so easy and were unlucky not to get more from the hard work. Making mountains into molehills, Buttevant were clinical in attack and were pointing anytime they got close. Bowing out in this round Fermoy will have to put the focus on the PIFC and PIHC now with both junior teams out of championship but hurling league semi-final to look forward to.
