As many people know, a truly historic event took place in Fermoy GAA in March this year when Aoife Geasley set up the Camogie club.  Four months after the extablishment of the teams, it's time to shine the spotlight on camogie with a few words from Aoife to show how far it's come, to share her experience in building what is turning into a community rather than just a team and hopefully to encourage more people to join up.

 Over to Aoife!

When I started the Camogie I expected to just be training a few kids. I was wrong. There was way more work involved in it than I expected, to the point where I almost gave up a few times. Anyway, we powered through and are now much more organised. More importantly though, two things happened in the last two training session with the girls that really has made all the work worth while....

One: Last week our u13s informed us that they are all involved in a "group message" where they discuss training and Hurleys and gear etc etc. This made me SO happy. My own camogie team growing up were like my second family we really relied on each other and had each other's backs and I can already see that happening with our girls.

Two:Training last night, one of the girls approached me explaining why she hadn't been training. Unfortunately, something very upsetting had happened to her. As awful as the situation is, I am so thrilled that she felt she could come and talk to me. As great and all as the teenage years are, they have so much to contend with and will have some tough times ahead of them. I have said it to the girls that we are all there if they need to talk or need anything at all! If they do come to me or Sandra we will do everything in our power to help them and look after them.

So, as tough and stressful as the last few months have been, setting up the Camogie, it was so worth while. Sandra and I are mad about yer girls and they really are making it all worth while
