After the club registering another Championship win it was now up to the minor hurlers to do the double for the weekend. Carrigtwohill would be the opponents and Riverstown would be the fitting venue at 7pm. Cathal Egan of the Glen took charge of the well contested game between the two sides. The winner of this game would be rewarded with a place in the Semi-Final with the other team going into a Quarter final game against the winner of Sliabh Rua and Aghabullogue, which takes place in Ballincollig Monday evening. Like the last few games, Fermoy got off to a brilliant start by tagging 1-2 to Carrigtwohills 2 points all in the opening 10 minutes. The goal coming from an error by the keeper as Shane O’Keeffe piled the pressure causing a dropped ball to be tapped home by O’Keeffe. Fermoy and Carrigtwohill were very close for the next 10 minutes and on the 19th minute a cleared ball up the right hand side was handled by David O’Callaghan, who tuned the defender and buried the ball past the keeper. Fermoy now held the lead at 2-3 to 0-3. Carrigtwohill then found some rhythm and over the final third of the first half managed to close the gap 2-3 to 0-6, most of Carrigs scores coming from the stick of Gosnell at half forward. Fermoy ended the half with a point through Creed bringing the lads in with a scoreline at 2-4 to 0-6. Colm Hurley had put in a massive shift holding down their centre back, not allowing him to command the game. Luke Aherne was leading by example in the half back line and all others followed, keeping the goal protected.

The 4 point lead that Fermoy had wouldn’t stand too long as the Imokilly side came out with a point to prove. While Fermoy had plenty of the possession but they fell short on the final product in numerous wides. In the opening 10 minutes of the second half, Carrig raised the white flag 3 times until Carrig managed a goal. This meant Carrigtwohill would take the lead for the first time in the game and would not look back. It would take Fermoy nearly 20 minutes after the break to register the first point and it would be from a placed ball from Adam Creed, who had been putting in a leaders performance. Shane O’Keeffe made way for Adam Ronan and it wouldn’t take long until Adam had his shot saved and brought down the field only to be pointed. At 2-6 to 1-14 the mountain was only getting bigger when Carrigtwohill managed to pip another goal past Wales. In the final few minutes Fermoy stuck it out with Creed and James Molloy marking the gap less at the final whistle finishing 2-9 to 2-15. As a whole game Fermoy looked dangerous in the opening half and Carrigtwohill dominated the second half. Fermoy had a lot of unconverted chances in the second half but also O’Callaghan was unlucky when he found the side netting. Fermoy will now have to gather around and pull up their socks, managers and players alike. If Fermoy want to win this competition they will meet Carrigtwohill or their first round rivals again at some stage. The team lined out as following: J Wales, J Ennis, R Sargent, G Lardner, J Molloy, J Scannell, L Aherne, S McCarthy, N Collins, D Lardner, C Hurley, A Creed, D O’Callaghan, D Dawson and S O’Keeffe (Capt) Subs Used: S O’Keeffe for A Ronan
